Civic and community organizations

The program is approved. Now somebody has to explain it to residents.

What usually happens

The deadline is a council meeting.

A water rate increase, a new billing system, a broadband access survey, a city-run power utility with four plans and nobody on staff who can explain the difference between them. The subject matter is rarely fun, and the deadline is a council meeting, which nobody is going to move because a vendor needs one more week.

Almost no city has a creative department. The ones that do usually have a single communications officer fitting it in between agendas.

How it goes

Both languages go in first.

They go into the first layout, before anything gets designed around English and retrofitted later.

Most of this reaches us through a public affairs or engagement firm that already holds the city contract, and we're comfortable either way, under their brand or ours. Through North Star Alliances we've been the creative arm on this kind of work for cities across Southern California since 2018.

A council date doesn't move, so neither does ours.
